Whatever Pharrell Williams touches turns to gold, and in the case of his latest collection for iconic jewellery house Tiffany & Co., quite literally too. The multihyphenate – whose job description includes musician, producer, artist and creative director, to name a few – has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the famed jewellery house. The newly launched collection, ‘Titan,’ draws inspiration from the ancient Greek god, Poseidon, and his trident.

The collection includes earrings, necklaces, rings and cuffs, each bearing a resemblance to Tiffany’s Hardware Collection, which is inspired by an original design from 1962 that nods to New York City. In Pharrell’s interpretation, the minimal, refined aesthetic of the Hardware Collection is replaced with a punkish sentiment, thanks to the use of spear-like spikes – a reference to Poseidon’s trident – and black titanium. “The detail in all of the jewellery pieces is very intentional, the use of black titanium…it’s a physical manifestation of beauty in blackness,” explains Pharrell.

Always one to subvert expectations, Pharrell’s collection challenges typical jewellery-making techniques. The pavé pieces in the collection feature diamonds reverse-set to expose the pavilion, resulting in a piece of maximum brilliance. The technique highlights Tiffany & Co.’s spectacular diamonds, while also exemplifying the House’s commitment to flawless craftsmanship — two things it’s always been renowned for.

The collection marks a milestone for the brand: even 185 years after Tiffany & Co. was born, it continues to push boundaries in a space that tends to err on the side of tradition. The collaboration between a heritage house and a creative visionary like Pharrell is a little left-of-field, though when it comes to Tiffany & Co., one should always expect the unexpected.

The Titan Collection will be available to shop at Tiffany & Co. on Ground Level in June.
