Ever since young British designer Maximilian Davis landed at the helm of heritage brand Ferragamo in 2022, dressing like a chic Italian woman has never been cooler. Known for its ladylike pumps and elegant dresses, Salvatore Ferragamo was the epitome of understated European glamour, though its fans were an older audience. When Davis was appointed creative director, his challenge was to refresh the Ferragamo aesthetic and attract a new, younger fan base.

His collections have retained the chic DNA of the brand, but levelled it up with interesting silhouettes — oversized blazers meet fringe skirts, sheer embellished gowns cut low to the navel worn beneath dropped-shoulder coats. Davis has made Ferragamo accessibly sexy and approachably cool. Case in point? His autumn/winter 24 collection.

Below, we break down everything you need to know, including the pieces to get your hands on when they drop in store.

Who: Ferragamo by Maximilian Davis

What: Autumn/winter 24

Key trends:

Burnished hues

The collection’s palette was as if someone had set a forest ablaze. Olive greens walked alongside caramel leather, vermillion, aubergine and navy.

Luxurious fabrics

Leather met sheer, feathers met fringing and knitwear met reflective fish scales. It was a textural delight on Ferragamo’s runway, and proved wearing just one colour can be the most interesting way to dress.

Unhinged hems

Some were trimmed with feathers, others were asymmetric, more still were draped with liquid-look fabric. When it came to the bottom line, Davis threw caution to the wind.

New necklines

More traditional necklines gave way to the avant garde. Deep V-necks were cut on the diagonal, column dresses were given oversized cowl necks and collars on coats grazed ear lobes.

Looks we love:

Look 8: A shirt, tie, pants, gloves, shoes and bag all crafted from the same delicious Sicilian olive-hued leather.
Look 38: A sheer negligee-like dress with a feather-trimmed neckline in a molten, liquid-look fabric.

Look 52: A high-necked midi-length dress covered in slightly reflective fish-like scales. A vermillion red heel added extra impact to an already high-voltage ensemble.

Pieces we have our eye on and how we’d wear them:

The burgundy red leather blazer from Look 32. It’s worn on the runway with khaki micro shorts, but we think it would look just as good with slouchy charcoal suit pants or a thigh-grazing mini.
The fish scale-covered mini in reflective red from 49. A showstopper of a dress in and of itself, we’d make quite a splash in this one at a Christmas party. Pair it with strappy black heels and away you go.
The off-white cowl-neck column gown with a sheer skirt and feather trimmed hem from Look 59. We think this would make the perfect casual wedding or reception dress, especially with a chic short veil. Plus, you’d get plenty of wear out of it beyond the big day.
