Ever the creative, McCall’s career in fashion began at 19 when she moved to London to work as a stylist for Conde Naste. As a hobby, she began selling one-of-a-kind, silk pieces that resulted in a rapidly growing fan base that included style icons Kate Moss & Alexander McQueen muse, Katy England.
The brand’s debut at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in 2004 launched its successful journey to date with global fans & influencers including Beyonce, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Josephine Skriver & Kylie Minogue..
QueensPlaza sat down with Alice McCall to discuss all things unique and the newest boutique.
What makes your QueensPlaza store different from the other stores around the country?
alice McCALL QueensPlaza is our newest boutique, featuring the timeless beauty of terrazzo, elegant white marble surfaces combined with brass fixtures and finishes, plush velvet ottomans and luxurious drapery. The interior provides the perfect setting to bring the alice McCALL brand and seasonal collections to life.
What is something that makes your brand unique from any other Australian Designer?
I don’t follow trends, rather, it’s an emotive journey that I’m driven by – connecting my creations with our customer and the fabulous occasions they’re shopping for. I design clothes that women create memories in – a first date, engagement party, birthday, new year’s eve, a wedding.
There is a focus on intricate detailing, experimentation with fabric techniques, and all of our prints are custom designed in my studio. The concept of ‘craft’ is something that remains core to the brand’s DNA.
